About Us
RefugeAid U of T is a student group that aims to mobilize youth in raising funds and awareness for the global refugee crisis by hosting events like discussion panels, educational campaigns and movie nights. We provide humanitarian aid in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF), to further the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced people around the world. RefugeAid UofT’s vision is to unite communities of diverse faiths, ethnicities and ideologies to aid those affected by ongoing conflict in war-torn regions.
RefugeAid began as a project conducted by Mariam Hamaoui and her colleague at York University. In 2012, they raised 10,000 CAD and built a hospital in Iraq to aid in the Syrian refugee crisis. The University of Toronto chapter of RefugeAid was established by Tiffany Kwok in 2019.
